  I need to vent sorry!

  i couldn't get back to sleep last night, something my father said a few weeks ago popped into my head.. we were talking about obtaining citizenship, he doesn't need it, but was contemplating what benefits it could get him now he's a pensioner.. background : i've been disfellowhipped for 15 years, i was born in, he is an elder, very much pimi, he was also born in.. i said to him how citizenship would be difficult for him as it would require him to swear allegiance to the state?.

  oh he said, thats just a crowd of people together in a big room for the swearing in event, it would be easy to just mumble or say nothing, nobody would know.. this has quietly been eating away in my mind, why did it bother me?.

  last night it hit me, when i was in my first year of school, age 5, i came out of school one day with a balloon with two little pencils attached, a gift from a classmate who's birthday it was, every child got one.

  I'm with Biahi on this. Count me in!

  Where are all the hotshot lawyers that would be willing to do this? I started trying to leave home and make it on my own since I was 14. I would have gnawed off my left arm to escape the hour-long diet of spittle-spewing scare sessions about death, destruction and apocalypse scenarios. As bad as that was, the emotional vaccuum that is characterized by JW families was worse. It just ate at you like a cancer. Growing up JW was like trying to live in a sensory deprivation chamber.

  The last grade I completed was the 8th grade. By age 16 I took a job as a travelling salesman to get away from my family. I should have been in school, should have been allowed to make friends, play sports, etc.

  The Jehovah's Witnesses are a criminal organization who targets children in order to screw them up psychologically, while they rip off your families wealth when your parents die.

  The ideology turns people into the biggest jaskasses anyone can even imagine. How anyone can retain positive views (as expressed many times on this forumn) of this association can only be described as Stockholm Syndrome in my opinion.

  No need to apologize. You are waking up to what happened to you. Your sub-conscious mind (SCM) is throwing memories up to your reasoning mind (RM) for you to examine. In this case, your SCM wants you to compare the ease in which your supposedly righteous father is willing to lie in public under oath (lying is a violation of one of the 10 commandments), while at the same time belonging to a religion that uses unbiblical rules to threaten eternal destruction for small children that receive a balloon on a classmates' birthday. Which is not a sin at all, but only a simple celebration of life.

  And, that's what they are - RULES , not "standards" as you put it. A very wise man who lived 2000 years ago once said, "Jesus said to them, “Watch out for the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”

  The Pharisees were the rule makers that put heavy loads on others that they themselves were not willing to bear. The Saducees embraced unbelief. Both are equally dangerous to your soul according to him.

  For 2000 years people have tended to believe him because he was a man of utmost character and predicted that he would die as a lamb, in our place as a ransom, and resurrect himself from the dead, while he was dead - then he did it.

  For me, his warnings have provided a much-needed framework in which to process the utter train wreck of a life given to me by my devout JW parents.

  The first Christians certainly thought Jesus was God. His hand picked apostles thought he was God. How could anyone who witnessed Jesus' prediction of Self-Resurrection think otherwise?

  A mosiac in the earliest known private prayer room which dates to 230 AD states rather simply that, "Jesus is God".

  Discouraging JWs From Calling

  i was reading an anti cult reddit post where a woman (ex mormon) was trying her hardest to discourage the mormons from visiting her and trying to convert her back.

  a few others chimed in about their various methods (coming to the door naked, pretending to be practicing black magic, etc.

  ) which they claimed would have the mormons and jws running away as fast as possible.. somehow, i doubt it.

  Sorry to hear that Skully. The reality is that our parents subjected us to a bunch of unnecessary trauma to accomodate their delusion of righteousness.

  @ Duran: So now people are fools if they don't observe your rules? And they are your rules, just like the Pharissaical rules were from the Pharisees, and not from God.

  Like I said: Most people simply assume freedom where there is no specific prohibition in scripture. That is just common sense. "it is for freedom Christ has set you free" - Gal. 5: 1

  The scriptures are full of warnings about falling victum to rule-oriented thinking such as yours.

  “Be careful of the yeast of the Pharisees. I mean that they are hypocrites". - Jesus (Luke 12)

  See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception [pseudo-intellectual babble], according to the tradition [and musings] of mere men, following the elementary principles of this world, rather than following [the truth—the teachings of] Christ. - Col. 2: 8 AMP

  But I fear that somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve through his trickery, so your minds might be led astray from the simplicity that is in Christ. 2 Cor. 11: 3-4

  You seem to adpopt a position where if something is not given specific permission in scripture, it might be called 'wrong" by people like youself.

  Most other people simply assume freedom where there is no specific prohibition in scripture.

  After all, scripture says that "it is for freedom Christ has set you free" - Gal. 5: 1

  i was once was told by an jw elder it was a rule not to gossip or swear as it could harm someone, but i guess the new light allows this.

  it was bad enough when they were calling people worldly now i heard a jw gossiping about someone and it was mean.just another reason i would never go back.

  Welcome. I came to the conclusion that the Kingdom Hall was simply too hostile of an environment for me .

  I finally left when they admitted that the generation doctrine was a false prophecy by removing the prediction from the second page Awake magazine inset, where it had been for decades.

  Like no one was going to notice. Duh.

  In other words, do you place the same restrictions on yourself that you place on others?
